Re: Painting for noob?
Fairly new painter here myself. I just started a couple months back.
Best advice I can give: Get cheap brushes at Popular or something. They are about RM0.80 to RM1.20 each if I can recall. Even if it's messed up or something, it's cheap to get more.

Paints? I used to use normal acrylic paints, but now I use the normal GW paints. Was advised to because it's better for miniatures.

Re: Painting for noob?
The last time I painted my Space Hulk minis, I used normal acrylic craft paints You need to thin them out considerably and apply a base coat on top of the primer. It looks good anyway :p The important part is soaking your minis before painting in a bowl/tub with some dishwasher liquid mixed in.

Re: Painting for noob?
If you want a bang for buck, I'd recommend PP paints. However from my experience, alot of players here (regardless of WM related or not) are pretty comfortable with GW paints. Therefore if you are looking for advice, most of them would tend to give in regards to GW paints. Both brands are Arcrylic paints btw.
I personally recommend getting GW brushes, which are sable brushes (possibly of the kolinsky variant but I cannot confirm on that), which is pretty good for arcrylics. If taken care properly, they can last you for quite a fair bit. They cost approx RM20 if I'm not mistaken.

I'd have to agree with Tekanan on the paint. PP paints have a nice smooth consistency which I really like. They thin really well (doesn't become separated) and go on easy. This saves money as a bottle goes a long way.
The PP metallics are not as good as GW's though. The thing I find very irritating about GW's paints is their tendency to become gloopy. The 'new' GW bottles are also very badly designed and don't seal very well, imho.

LOL same can be said about pp bottles. The hinges can easily snap so beware!!
In my opinion, get a detail and fine detail brushes from GW (citadel?) and then go wholesale on cheap brushes at Popular bookstore. You should also get one of those Chinese art brushes which are brilliant for laying down basecoats due to their size and flexibility. put aside one or two cheap brushes for metallic work. There's a brand I cant remember (its in popular) which uses white plastic bristles where the size can get ridiculously small. Smaller than GW fine detail in fact. Great for metallic detailing and final highlights.
I use a mixture of GW and PP paints tbh, because you get whatever you can over here. But one awesome thing is the GW washes. GET THEM! best thing ever.

Ok guys, need a quick priming to all my unpainted minis, I noticed that some use black paint acrylic ... i think i saw it was around RM16 per can at the hardware store. Is that one alright? Or are there any specific brands you guys using?

Re: Painting for noob?
I'm using a cheapo one that goes for RM7 per can at my nearby hardware store Don't choose the glossy ones though, the colour I chose was flat black (it should be code '0' or '00' on most brands). Flat black has that gritty and rough texture that makes the paint easy to adhere to.

Can you pick up a can at your place? I can drop by to pick up from you, and pass you that other random different language game stuff to you.

Can can. I'll see if I'm free to buy it this evening. It may be RM8 now that I think of it but it's definitely nowhere near RM16 (that's crazy price right there). And yep, I believe the brand is Anchor.

I recall rm16.. but that's probably some random brand... perhaps because i was looking at a hardware store in the car accessories section.

<----- Super Noob. But dont think this is the right place for intro.
Never really painted before, but have friends that uses Anchor as base coat for miniatures, or to spray gundams.
Got influenced by P666P to start warmachine/horde.

Back to be on topic...
Camlok, painting is a very fun part of the hobby. Some like Gizmoduck paints very well, can get advice from him. Others like myself, just love painting... and sometimes we are lucky
However painting is not everything, it is good to just try, even if they don't look like Heavy Metal stuff... or some super pro thing... it is fine. Discover if you like this part of the hobby.
But the most important/fun part of the hobby is still playing! Come Play!

Re: Painting for noob?
why dont you try primer that has the same colour as your theme army? it might save some time. on buying spray paints, always check the paint are they for priming or not. coz if you prime using normal spary paints, the acrylic paint will not stick to the models.
