Player Quick References
!!! Please Sticky !!!
This topic is to collect quick references for players (pros and noobs) made / written by our community. To start, here is a QnD (Quick and Dirty(tm)) diagram to easily remember which model is under which category. Many spells, abilities and effects only affect certain types of models.
To remember (no matter what-sized base):
1. Is the model a Warjack / Warbeast? If not, it's a Warrior.
2. If it's a Warrior, is it a Warcaster / Warlock? If not, it's a Trooper or a Solo.
3. Is it a Solo? If not, the it's definitely a Trooper.
4. Is it a Grunt? If not, it's a UA, WA or Leader (Leaders are not Grunts!)
Lastly, a UA could be a Commander or a Standard Bearer something else but they are not Grunts. Weapon Attachments are also not Grunts. Models that are not Warjacks / Warbeasts, Warcasters / Warlocks or Solos are Troopers. All Troopers must be part of a Unit.
Warjacks and Warbeasts cannot begin the game Autonomous - they must have a controller (with the notable exception of the Avatar of Menoth!). Jack Marshals and their Warjacks are not Battlegroups. However, Lesser Warlocks and their Warbeasts are.
Drawing and remembering the diagram helped me remember what's what when I first started.
EDIT: Simplified the diagram a bit.

Re: Player Quick References
Reminds me of Friday meeting horror ...
For experience players I think its OK but if I were to show newbie this I worried it will freaks him/her out its somewhat like case studies / organization chart already man...

Its a great diagram right til you reach the troopers section. I agree with jason, it might be a bit intimidating for newbies.

Re: Player Quick References
Probably just leave the unit attachments and weapon as just attachments, dont need to drill down further.

Re: Player Quick References
Yes, maybe better to remove the lower attachments.
EDIT: Done!

Re: Player Quick References
Definitely terrifying for a newbie. I suggest this to be shown only after he/she(?) is getting familiar to the game.
Re: Player Quick References
"Terrifying"? Man, how old are your newbies? 4? You should probably give the newbies some credit, dude.
I actually drew this diagram (with a pen) when I was a newbie just to quick-ref when I read things like "non-warcaster, non-warlock warrior models", "replace a grunt model with..." etc. A picture's worth a thousand words and all that.

Re: Player Quick References
It's not that terrfying, i've seen far more games that have complicated starting rules.
Just remove the drill down attachment type and it should be fine.

Re: Player Quick References
You will be surprised at how many people who perceive Warmachine to be a very complicated game. While the chart definitely helps one to get by in understanding rules, showing the newbie on his first or 2nd game would scare him off.
