Yes. Stay OT! Last thing you want is a mod coming in with a magical ps18 weaponmaster banhammer .
To answer mir24's queries from my point of view,
I know you have lots of questions now on which faction plays better and all. Although I do not know your sentiments, I can only suspect that you want to 'invest' in the "right" army. One that can give you plenty of fun times and also one that you'd keep till the end of times. I've been through it and even though Khador excites me, I was also juggling between Cryx and Legion when deciding my "first army". The best advice given to me was "Just go what you like and think looks great". I did, bought my Khador Battlegroup, and up till now I STILL go back to Khador and my Sorscha after experimenting with other factions.
So what was the first mini that pulled you into WM? What you like most? GO FOR IT. You'll never go wrong!
To answer mir24's queries from my point of view,
Generally speaking, WM/H is cheaper than WH40k/Fantasy. Some actually argue that PP is more expensive than GW stuffs (I've heard of the complains before). It all comes down to how you look at it. Do note that you need some basic stuff like paints, brushes, files, basing material, etc to do up your miniature. That should increase the cost abit more and as almond says, you will eventually get more and more minis. That is the unfortunate truth! But no worries. From our experience here, we can assure you that you spend less time assembling/painting your army and more time gaming compared to 40k. That IMO, makes it a whole lot 'cheaper'!mir24 wrote:
1) Is it less pricey than W40K (and where can I buy the stuff)?
There is, but it's mostly fan-made. In the WM Mk.II rulebook (essentially, Warmachine 2nd ed.), there is however a short section on how to make your warjacks "grow with experience" in locally ran campaigns. FYI, there's a league planned for next year and who knows, maybe a campaign would closely follow suit?
2) Is there a campaign/story mode where the armies grow in experience?
While PP have pushed for warjacks/warbeasts strongly in Mk.II, there are still very strong units in the game. Some warcasters/warlocks rely more on units in their army compared to warjacks/warbeasts. So yes, it is definitely possible to rely on troops. Some factions are also more troop-centric compared to others (i.e. Cryx, Merc pirates, etc). Just be careful in which warcaster you choose.
3) I'm a fan of massed infantry (no points for guessing which army I play in W40K! ;p ) and considering the huge numbers of troops in WM/H, would it be possible to rely on troops instead of Warjacks in an army?
Merc can be good, considering if you know how to play them. Unfortunately, Merc tends to be frustrating for the first few games in my opinion.
4) Is the Mercenary faction any good? I love the look of some of the units but the Warjack designs aren't as impressive as the other armies...

By the way, besides Wolf's Game Shop, there's news that Comics Corner DJ is bringing in PP stocks too.

Re: Players Introduction
I say it's more expensive than 40k. You know why? With 40k, after your 1st (and maybe 2nd) full 1500 or 2000 army, you're so burnt out you don't want any more 40k. Some people go nuts and get 1500pts of a new army after every (re)new codex (power creep, ma!) - but that's rare people with lotsa cash.
WM/H after your 1st 15 points you want 25, then try this unit, try that solo and then on to 35 and then get other caster/lock then get some more units and then other faction and then move up to 50 pts, and then... moar!!!! See? Before you know it, you've graduated from the jasechew school of WM/H.

Hi guys. Figured it's about time I intro'ed myself. Name is irfan from Melaka. Am trying to start a wm/h community and it's going decently well so far. 4 players with a 5th one starting as soon as he gets his hands on some skorne. Hopefully we will be having some games at Epic Toyz Melaka soon and you guys can find the time to make it down here. looking forward to rolling some dice with everyone.
Btw currently have the khador, Menoth and legion starter as well as some retribution. Looking to increase my elf force.

Should be interesting to make a day trip carpool down for gaming there. But probably good to go down on a saturday. Go down to MMU Melaka shouldn't take more more than an hour and half.

GIzmo needs an excuse to get out of the house. A trip down to Melaka with a bunch of guys helps ease the aggro.

Your wife is partial gamer. Can't say the same for the rest of the other wives.

From experience, I can safely say bringing wives along and trying to get them to do their thing is ALWAYS ALWAYS a bad idea. I am seriously.

Sure; there are lots of good, solid infantry options who are either rock solid or just overrun you with sheer numbers.
Example:
Khador 25 points
BATTLEGROUP:
Irusk (Warcaster; control specialist and leader of men)
Berserker Heavy Warjack (Cheap heavy warjack; slightly crazy and prone to exploding).
SQUAD 1:
10 Winter Guardsmen (Cannon fodder armed with small cannons!)
Winter guard officer and standard bearer Unit Attachment
3 Rocketeer Weapon attachments (explosives for killing enemy infantry)
SQUAD 2
10 Winter Guardsmen
(More cannon fodder; no add-ons as this squad's job is to take hits on the way in.)
OTHER SUPPORT:
Kovnik Jozev Grigorovich (character; he's a kind of propaganda specialist who shouts stuff to boost guard units)
4 Widowmakers (Elite Snipers; ideal for whittling down big hordes or chipping away at multi-life models)
Widowmaker Marksman (Sniper hero; makes his buddies able to reposition when they kill something.)
mir24 wrote:

Mercenary armies are certainly entertaining; competitively they can be difficult due to having less synergy than proper faction armies, but you'll find that with a bit of foresight and planning the Steelhead mercenary forces and the Dwarves of Rhul can run like a well-oiled machine.
Re: Players Introduction
Mobs by faction:
Khador:
1.) Winter Guard (lightly armored, footslogging grunts carrying small portable cannons that are supposed to be blunderbusses)
2.) Iron Fangs (Well drilled formations of armored spearmen whose pikes are tipped with deadly shaped explosives)
Cygnar:
1.) Sword Knights
(An ancient order of knights trained to dismantle jacks plate from piston)
2.) Trenchers
(They dig holes, they make smoke screens and have solid reliable rifles. One of the most iconic troops of Warmachine)
Cryx:
1.) Mechanithralls (steam-powered cyborg zombies!)
2.) Bane Thralls (heavily armored, near impossible to hit at range and possessing an aura that saps armor)
Protectorate of Menoth
1.) Zealots (Angry mobs with molotovs)
2.) Exemplar Knights (Crusading knights who become stronger with each casualty)

Well in few years time I believe all those 1500p or 2000p armies is TRASH .
Meanwhile Warmachine is different when I 1st started 5 years ago with a starter I bought still usable and still kicks ass till today.
Wow haha I own a school now have I? Its all bout personal resistance this I see it happens in all the games I see ppl with multiple 40K 2000p armies before , ppl with foil and non foil of the same magic decks ?
But I would say I only do it coz I can .

So knowledgeable.
Well for newbies at the end I would say no need to get confused by this list juz play what u feels like playing.
Start from a faction from there u put a starting point and decide what u want.
Don't concern on what other faction does until u face it on battlefield. In this game every faction sure got broken stuff and nice models there is no way u can buy them all.
Guys try not to confuse ppl our with ur "knowledge"

Re: Players Introduction
In my opinion, rather than telling them exactly what sort of caster / units / warjacksbeast that you can field, it's better to approach them from the story side. Usually storyside makes a better understanding to the overall 'theme' of a faction. Like many games before this, eventually all factions will have access to the most of the functions anyway.
It's about story. Are you good guys with nice blue trenchcoat army? Fanatical Religionist? So called russian? Evil corrupted psycho cyborg? That's the best way to capture the newbie.
